Frequently Asked Questions
A Non-Conformance Report (NCR) documents work, materials, or processes that do not meet the specified requirements in the contract documents, specifications, or quality standards. It initiates a formal investigation and resolution process to bring the non-conforming item into compliance.
There are four standard dispositions: Rework (redo the work to meet specifications), Repair (fix to an acceptable condition with engineering approval), Use As-Is (accept the deviation with engineering justification), and Reject/Replace (remove and replace entirely). Each disposition has different approval requirements.
The NCR register categorizes each item by type (material, workmanship, design, process), responsible trade, building area, and specification section. Trend analysis reveals if a particular trade, material, or area has recurring quality issues that need systemic corrective action.
