Offshore days are measured in vessel-days and weather windows — the two most expensive numbers in renewables. Here is exactly what an offshore daily report must carry, and how POD builds it from a voice note on deck.

On an offshore build, "nothing happened" is the most expensive line on the report.

When the sea state shuts the window, a land template records an empty day. But the jack-up vessel offshore is still on charter, still billing six figures, whether it lifts a nacelle or rides the swell. Six months on, when the schedule is contested, that "empty" day is indefensible. An offshore daily report has to carry four things a land template has no field for — so the standby day is on the record the moment it happens, not reconstructed a quarter later.

The four things every offshore day must record

The weather window

When the sea state opened the window, when it closed, and the significant wave height at cutoff. Every other line on the report is read against this one. A land template has no field for it — so an offshore day reads as empty when it was anything but.

Vessel-day status

For each chartered vessel — SOV, jack-up, CTV, cable-lay — whether it worked, mobilized, or waited on weather, and for how long. A vessel on standby still bills six figures. This single line is what defends the schedule six months later.

The marine installs

Monopiles and transition pieces set, nacelles and blades lifted, inter-array and export cable-lay metres, pull-ins terminated. The work that can only happen inside the window — and the proof it did.

Crew transfers

Personnel transferred to and from the turbines, gangway hours, and any transfer aborted on sea state. Offshore safety and productivity both begin at the gangway, so the report begins there too.

Everything happens inside the window

Foundations, tower sections, nacelles, blades, cable pull-ins — each one waits for the sea state to open the window, then races to finish before it closes. The daily report is the record of what the window allowed.

Writing it, in four moves

Open with the weather window

When it opened, when it closed, the Hs at cutoff. This is the frame the owner and the marine warranty surveyor read everything else against.

Mark every vessel working or waiting

Walk each chartered vessel: worked, mobilized, or weather standby, with hours. This one habit turns a monthly claim look-back into a daily, defensible record.

Record what the window allowed

Foundations set, transition pieces, nacelles and blades lifted, cable-lay metres, transfers completed. Concrete numbers — never "good progress offshore."

Speak it — POD structures it

On deck with no signal, capture a voice note or a few photos. POD maps it to the offshore fields the moment you reconnect, and the dashboard updates itself.

Offshore reporting questions

Three things generic templates never capture: the weather window (when the sea state allowed work and for how long), vessel utilization (which vessels were on charter, working vs waiting), and the marine work items — crew transfers, jack-up positioning, monopile or jacket installation, and cable lay. Without those, an offshore day reads as "nothing happened" when a six-figure vessel actually sat on standby.
