It identifies who is doing what, when, with what resources, and what constraints must be resolved — making it the primary coordination tool for field teams.
The three-week lookahead should be updated weekly, typically at the weekly coordination meeting. Each week, the completed week drops off, actual progress is noted, and a new third week is added. This keeps the plan current and forces weekly constraint analysis.
The lookahead is derived from the master schedule but provides greater detail. While the master schedule might show "Install Electrical Rough-In — 3 weeks," the lookahead breaks this into daily activities per area with specific crew assignments and inspection holds.
