The first big solar fleets are aging out, and their repower is a build a greenfield report can't hold

The earliest utility solar is reaching the age where higher-output modules make a repower pay — more MWdc from the same racking, foundations, and interconnection. But it is a removal and a re-install at once: old modules unbolted, tested, and recycled, then new ones mounted on the reused rails. A greenfield template captures the install and drops the removals, the recycling, and the uplift. POD reports both halves, the day each moves.

Old modules unbolted, tested, and sent to recycle, resale, or landfill diversion. What came off, how many watts it was making, and where it went — the removal half a greenfield report never captures.

High-output re-modularization

New higher-wattage modules installed on the existing rails, often with string re-layout and new inverters. More MWdc from the same footprint — the whole point of the repower.

Reused racking & interconnection

The racking, the foundations, and the point of interconnection stay. POD reports against the reused base: which rails and trackers are re-certified for the new module, and where the interconnection stands.

MWdc uplift & re-energize

String test, re-energization, and the MWdc before-and-after. Capacity uplift and cost per percent complete are the two numbers a repower owner reads — repower keeps the cost well under a new build.

Old modules out, high-output in

The refresh sweeps the array block by block — dim, aging modules swap for bright high-output ones on the same rails — and the MWdc bar grows from the old nameplate to the new.
